First Paris Fringe Festival

poster for Paris Fringe Festival 23-29 may at several venuesHave you ever attended a Fringe Festival? My first off-the-main-theater circuit experience was in Edinburgh. The concept began in the 1940s in Edinburgh. Fringe Festivals are productions on the fringe of main-stream theatre. And they are well-established international theater events. Paris is now joining the long theater list on the fringe. One of the plays I recently reviewed “There’s No Place Like” has been invited to participate in the First Paris Fringe Festival May 23-29, 2016.

People and Plays
Eric Bouvron*, nominee for a Molière 2016 award, will host the public opening ceremony on Monday, May 23 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm at the Theatre Les Feux de la Rampe, one of the partner organizers with Paris Fringe. This inaugural ceremony will provide audiences with a glimpse of the variety of companies and twenty shows that will be showcased during the week, with artists and acts taking the stage. *Mr. Bouvron and Anne Bourgeois are the directors of Les Cavaliers nominated for best play in a private theater. Molière winners will be announced the evening of May 23.

More about Fringe
The festival will feature international and France-based theater companies, workshops (physical theater, improvisation, immersive theater), talks, stand-up comedy and events in English with a contemporary theme. Fringe theater festivals are held in numerous cities on different continents (North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Africa). Paris Fringe takes place in traditional theaters and alternative venues in the ninth arrondissement.

Other Paris Fringe partners include Theatre Trevise and Theatre in Paris a cultural tourism startup which provides English surtitling of some of Paris’ very popular French theater on augmented reality glasses (translations appear above the stage). Follow the Paris Fringe on Facebook and @leParisFringe Twitter.

This Web site and and its blog articles are for travelers to Paris who are looking for advice from someone who lives in Paris. These tips are "for Parisians at heart". Many people would like to visit, some can and some cannot - so I will help you enjoy a glimpse of the city and its surroundings. This project has been ongoing since 2002. Prior to living in Paris (since 1992) my European history began in the early 70s with three years in Wiesbaden, Germany. My next foray onto the Continent was in the mid-80s after graduation from the University of Florida (where I met Erik): traveling around Europe and UK with my friend, Margie, hitchhiking around and working in Ireland. After living and working as a journalist in Sweden for four years, traveling on boats, the Trans-Siberian Railway, local trains and planes took Erik and I around the world. I began working as a flight attendant in 1990 for American Airlines, based in Chicago. We moved to Paris, France in 1992 where I commuted between Paris and Chicago for my flight attendant/stewardess job. Finally my inner voice said "Stop!" and I left American Airlines six weeks shy of 20 years January 1, 2010. Now that is over and I am back working as a journalist and photographer full time on - My videos are posted on YouTube on the colleensparis youtube channel. and I am active in Toastmasters 75. Enjoy!
